Iron Clasp™ - Cam Latch™ Long Rifle Case

Case is well made. Latch system works well.

This is the second "Iron Clasp" case I have purchased from Cedar Mill. I am over all very impressed by these cases, and felt the really warranted a review. I will try to cover the important points to consider in a good hard case. First lets talk about the plastic. This case is extremely robust. It has minimal flex compared to my more budget friendly Plano All Weather cases. I also have a large laptop case from Pelican that has more flex to the plastic than my cases from Cedar Mill. The are the cases on the bottom of my truck bed with stuff piled on top because they can take it in stride. Next I'll address the foam. The Cedar Mill cases have some of the highest quality Pick and Pluck foam I have encountered. Plano's foam is to soft for big heavy guns, and I find it harder to custom cut than the foam that comes in Cedar Mill cases. Cedar Mill's foam is even more robust than Pelican in my opinion. The price is also an important factor, and this the best priced case I can find for the quality. With a coupon you can get this case for cheaper than a similar length Plano all weather case. With all this doting on Cedar Mill you might wonder why I only gave it four stars? The biggest shortcoming is right in the name it's self. The "Iron Clasp" seems to have an issue loosening over time. My first case just doesn't latch shut as tight as I would like. I don't fully trust it to keep all the water out if it were to be involved in a "boating accident". Where as, I completely trust my Pelican case to keep my laptop 100% dry. The good news is the latches are screwed in to the case so they can be replaced in theory. I just wish the latches were higher quality straight from Cedar Mill. I know there are more robust options out there. We used similar latches on camera cases when I worked in TV. One other potential downside is weight. It is a heavy case empty. I understand that is probably why the case is so strong, but if weight is an issue I would look at other options. The long and short is if you want the most protective case for physical abuse of your fine firearms look no further. If you primarily want water protection I would consider Pelican since they latch tighter. I would still recommend this case to anyone as is, but if they upgraded the latch it would truly be a five star case!

This gun case is amazing and well built! Love the turn style latches and the seal knob. Plus plenty of pluck foam for a form fit. All around heavy duty case. Definitely best for the price too! So glad I found y'all.

No pics were available for me to determine whether this would fit a 40" x 9" grip CETME / HK G3 so I took a chance and it is just fine. Room for all accessories and room left over for a scope. The plucking was simple. (I traced my parts first and the foam comes out easily. Very good value, very good quality.

ok first the latches are great but the fasteners (Phillips) are exposed top and bottom. Then the locking points are surrounded buy plastic no metal cladding nothing . an industrious teen could get in this case with a Phillips screwdriver and or a hacksaw. Its not safe. I belive the TSA person who approved this case wanted to be able to get in to this easily. I bought it because of the metal latches and pluck and peel customization.

I bought the case for my Mossberg 590A1 SPX and couldn’t be happier. The case is of superior quality and fits the gun and his little friend perfectly. I got a little sloppy with picking the foam, but I’m very happy with the purchase. Would highly recommend.

I have owned this case for almost a year and based on its quality and ease of use I will be purchasing another one. The hinge set and metal clasps have worked flawlessly every time and the case seals perfectly.

Honestly, it's good to see some metal parts on a case. I really like the latches on this case, even if they're a bit odd to get used to. Rather than the dinky plastic slide latches on most cases, these latches grab tight and don't feel like they're gonna burst if you have a bit too much inside. Love them. Everything fits tight inside, and the pluckable foam is perfect for getting your rifle or shotgun to fit right (the images don't show that you can pluck the foam though). The foam cubes are a bit larger than the pistol cases obviously, but not so large that you run into an issue where you have to choose between too tight (too much foam) and too loose (too much foam was plucked). Plus, the extra layer of foam underneath the pluck can be cut into to stand some of my magazines vertically, which makes them look a lot nicer in the case too! I really can't say there's anything I dislike about this case, and looking at the design, it looks like they're stackable if you have multiple, but I'm not sure since I've just got the one. One thing I would like to see is if I can get just the foam so that I can have several difference foam inserts for my guns, but I can't hold that against this review. Great case, I'll have to save up for another!

Disappointed. Latches do not stay in closed position...tab easily comes up and rotates. Lock is probably only thing that kept case closed during air travel. Prefer my Boyt case.
